  • A New Chapter at St. Bart’s

Rooted in Community, Designed for Wellbeing

For decades, the corner of Jackson Street and Harbison Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia was home to St. Bartholomew Catholic School and its adjoining convent. After their closure in 2005, a new vision took shape on the site, one centered on community care and aging with dignity. Today, NewCourtland at St. Bart’s stands in their place. A six-story building that offers 42 affordable one-bedroom apartments for seniors, along with a LIFE Center that delivers healthcare and supportive services to residents and neighbors alike.

  • Foundations for Aging Well

Designed for Care, Built for the Future

As the first of two phases, the project introduced a thoughtful mix of services and amenities: welcoming dayrooms, multi-purpose gathering spaces, a fitness room, laundry facilities, and an onsite clinic. Funded in part through Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), the building was constructed using prefabricated wall panels, concrete plank, and energy-efficient systems to promote long-term performance and sustainability. Every element was designed to support independence and well-being while reinforcing a strong sense of community.

  • NewCourtland at St. Bart's, Phase II

A Purposeful Addition to an Active Campus

Construction on Phase II of the NewCourtland Apartments at Saint Bartholomew began in 2023 and was completed in April 2024. Funded by PHFA LIHTC, the project brings 48 new one-bedroom apartments to the existing senior housing complex in Northeast Philadelphia. Designed for affordability and independence, Phase II rises above ground-level parking and was constructed using pre-fabricated wall panels and concrete plank systems. Levels three through six align with the original structure, allowing residents to move easily between buildings and share infrastructure. At each junction, a Social Hub offers space for connection, with programming tailored to each floor.

  • NewCourtland at St. Bart's, Phase II

A New Phase in Senior Living

The building’s layout and construction approach allowed for seamless integration without interrupting life in the occupied residences. Phase II meets the criteria for EnergyStar Certification and Enterprise Green Communities, with a reduced HERS rating that reflects its performance. The result is a high-efficiency building designed for long-term sustainability and daily comfort.
