In 2020, AIM Academy lost one of its own. Sam Ozer, a recent graduate, avid cyclist, and captain of the school’s mountain biking team; was tragically killed while riding home from his job at Trek Bike Shop in Manayunk. In the wake of his passing, the AIM and Philadelphia biking communities came together to create a place that honors Sam’s life and passion while inspiring the students who follow. Constructed from two repurposed shipping containers and located along the bike trail beside AIM’s campus, Sam’s Place is a hands-on learning hub where students repair bikes, connect with one another, and carry forward Sam’s spirit of curiosity and kindness. A custom curriculum donated by Project Bike Tech powers the learning, while Trek Bicycle outfitted the space with equipment and tools, and ensuring the story of one spirited young man continues to make an impact.
