Independence Charter School, Center City

Independence Charter School provides a K-8 dual language program at both their Center City and West Philadelphia Campuses. Lacking a gymnasium and adequate cafeteria space at their Center City campus, Blackney Hayes designed a 25,000 square foot addition with a construction budget of $8.7M. Located on the ground floor, the new cafeteria will contain a full-service kitchen and will provide ample space for various seating arrangements for the students. The existing cafeteria space was renovated back into an educational space. The gymnasium space, located above the cafeteria provides much-needed exercise and play space filled with natural light. Due to the tight constraints of this urban site, a rooftop play area will be provided on the gymnasium roof.
