The design and planning of the built environment is the core of BHA’s services. We have designed buildings for a wide range of uses, clients and budgets. We are architects who excel at the planning, design and leadership of the construction process. Our goal with every project is to craft a solution to the client’s needs that reflects their values and vision for the project.
As you look through the examples of our work, please keep in mind that our firm not only has experience working with a variety of building types, but also practices environmentally sensitive and “green” design. Our staff includes LEED™ Accredited Professionals who are committed to designing facilities that respond to and protect the environment. As we approach new projects, we encourage our clients to consider the added value of LEED™ certification for their project.
BHA Interiors works closely with our architectural group and also maintains separate interiors clientele. The Interior Design Department has developed a breadth of experience ranging from corporate offices, banks, hospitals, medical offices, country clubs and restaurants. Services provided include space planning, design, finish selection and procurement, art consulting, signage and move-in supervision.
The engineering team at Blackney Hayes Architects draws from an advanced skill base to provide high performance engineering solutions to public / private schools, colleges / universities, multi-family housing facilities, corporate and industrial complexes, healthcare facilities, as well as local and state governmental institutions. In addition, the team provides forensic engineering services to diagnose deficiencies in existing mechanical and electrical systems and designs solutions that are specific to the client’s needs. Our services include HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection and HVAC Controls.
Many of these projects involve the restoration of historic buildings. BHA has tackled numerous projects of this type and received many awards for successful results. We have converted historic schools into housing, restored historic homes, and industrial buildings into offices; adapting historic buildings for modern needs, while preserving their original character. Services include assessing and surveying existing conditions, feasibility studies and exploring options for reuse, along with full documentation for renovation work.
Many projects start with the question, “where are we going and what problems will we face when we get there?” Master planning addresses these questions through a process which starts with assembling data about the client’s current situation, studying their strategic plan, and then, projecting needs for the future and establishing possible scenarios for solutions. The goal to create a map that anticipates the future growth of an institution, allowing growth to proceed on a predetermined course rather than waiting for a problem to arise.
Building Information Modeling
Using the latest version of Revit software allows us to construct a virtual model of every element of a project. We can use this tool to view conflicts in the design stage, well before the project is under construction. Accordingly, projects designed and documented with BIM software can expect to see fewer change orders and on site conflicts requiring immediate resolution. Not only does this provide for a smoother design and construction process, but it can potentially save the building owner a significant amount of money in change orders and overages.
By adopting this software we have also realized incredible presentation opportunities. We now have the ability to provide a high quality, accurate and detailed rendering of the proposed design from any angle. We can use this capability to both create impressive images for visualization and marketing, as well as spot design irregularities early in the process.
